Traditionally the youths open the Carnival parades showcasing their talent while being guided by their school teachers, and parents. There is great emphasis on maintaining this particular part of St. Maarten's Carnival Culture as it allows the tradition to be passed on from one generation to the next thereby preserving the islands culture. These are the same cultural roots upon which the Caribbean culture is built. To determine a winner each troupe is judged during the parade by judges posted at specific locations, which are made known to the troupe leaders before the actual event. |
