The Closing Jump up has traditionally been called the "Last Lap" and marks the Official Closing of the Carnival Festivities. Very often the shy spectator, who all through carnival fought with the desire to enter a street jam, would be seen fully dressed and at the last leg of the "Last Lap" jump up they would enter the crowd and jam their way to Carnival Village. This is also the last chance for the bands to prove who THE BEST CARNIVAL BAND is as they compete for the prize of Carnival Band of the Year.
This jump-up is be usually led by the Carnival man, known as King MoMo. When the Momo gets into the village, it is burnt, symbolizing that all sins from the past year are forgiven and that the carnival celebrations have come to an end - until next year!
